The JCC on the Cohn Campus offers social and fitness programs for the mature adult to connect with others through an array of engaging and lively events.  From exercises for active aging, to ballroom dancing, to bridge, to the News Schmooze discussion group, you will enjoy comradery and stimulation at the JCC.

 

ARTS ABOUT TOWN: TAMPA BAY HISTORY MUSEUM

DOCENT-LED TOUR WITH LUNCH AT THE COLUMBIA CAFÉ

View exhibits of Tampa Bay area's first native inhabitants, Spanish conquistadors, and historical figures who shaped the area's history, as well as a reproduction of a 1920s cigar store.

The Arts About Town series includes excursions to the Straz Center Discover Opera events, docent-led museum tours, and more.

BIBLICAL LITERATURE

Meets every other Wednesday.

Biblical Literature is a course which provides the student the opportunity to see the Bible as a great piece of remarkable writing with every aspect of literary greatness imaginable. It is not a lecture course but a discussion course with open participation. It is also not a course in religion and is appropriate for people of all faiths, or none.

We meet twice a month at the Cohn JCC on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3 PM. Each member is encouraged to bring his/her own Bible so we can compare different translations. Occasionally, we may show a movie. Not "The Ten Commandments"- much too long!

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Start date: Mon, Sept. 11.

The book this month is A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman.  Book Discussion Group meets once every other month to talk about the book which we have all read for that month. Sometimes the book has Jewish content or Jewish interest, sometimes it does not. Although the discussion leader often chooses the book, members are invited and encouraged to suggest reading material which they feel would be interesting.

CROCHET LESSONS

Meets every Monday.

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. 

 

YOU WILL LEARN TO:  

  • view falls as controllable.
  • set goals for increasing activity.
  • make changes to reduce fall risks at home.
  •  exercise to increase strength and balance.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • anyone concerned about falls.
  • anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength.
  • anyone who has fallen in the past.
  • anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns.
